Alexander Smith (bishop, born 1684)

Alexander Smith (1684 – 1766) was a Scottish Episcopal bishop. He served as the Bishop of Caithness from 1733 until his death.

Smith was consecrated at Edinburgh on 28 June 1733 by bishops Freebairn, Gillan and Rattray. He was a staunch Jacobite sympathizer, reflecting the prevailing sentiment within the Scottish Episcopal Church at the time. He quietly ministered to his flock in Caithness during a period of political and religious tension following the Jacobite uprisings. Little documentation survives detailing his episcopate. He died in 1766 at the age of 82.
