225th (Kootenay) Battalion, CEF

The 225th (Kootenay) Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF), was an infantry battalion raised in British Columbia, Canada, during the First World War. Authorized on May 1, 1916, the battalion was recruited primarily in the Kootenay region of British Columbia, encompassing areas such as Nelson, Cranbrook, and surrounding communities. The battalion was mobilized at Vernon, British Columbia.

The 225th Battalion embarked for Great Britain on May 1, 1917, aboard the SS Olympic. Upon arrival, the battalion was absorbed into the 11th Reserve Battalion on May 21, 1917. Consequently, the 225th Battalion did not serve as a distinct unit in the front lines of the Western Front. Its personnel were used as reinforcements for other Canadian units already engaged in combat.

The commanding officer of the 225th (Kootenay) Battalion was Lieutenant-Colonel W.J. Bowser.

The battalion is perpetuated by The British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught's Own).
