William Grant (Northern Ireland politician)

William Grant (12 March 1863 – 11 June 1924) was a Unionist politician in Northern Ireland.

Born in County Down, Grant was a prominent figure in the shipbuilding industry in Belfast, working for Harland and Wolff. He became active in Unionist politics, serving as a Belfast Corporation councillor.

Grant was elected as the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) Member of Parliament (MP) for North Belfast in the 1918 general election, succeeding R. Dawson Bates. He held the seat until the 1922 general election, when he was defeated by Thomas Donald of the Belfast Unionist Labour Party.

In 1921, Grant was elected to the first Parliament of Northern Ireland representing North Belfast. He served as Minister of Labour in the Government of Northern Ireland from 1921 until his death in 1924. His time in this role was marked by attempts to address unemployment and improve working conditions in the province, navigating the economic challenges of the post-war period.
