Tim Benjamin (composer)
Tim Benjamin (born 1975) is a British composer known for his diverse output across opera, orchestral, chamber, and vocal music. He studied mathematics at Oxford University before pursuing a career in music. His compositions are characterized by their dramatic intensity, rhythmic complexity, and exploration of contrasting musical textures.
Benjamin's operas include Written on Skin (libretto by Martin Crimp), which premiered at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, and Doctor Dee (libretto by Damon Albarn), co-created with Albarn for the Manchester International Festival and subsequently performed at the English National Opera. He has also composed music for various ensembles, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Britten Sinfonia.
