Mefalsim
Mefalsim is a moshav (agricultural cooperative community) in south-central Israel. Located in the northwestern Negev, near Ofakim, it falls under the jurisdiction of the Bnei Shimon Regional Council.
The moshav was founded in 1950 by Jewish immigrants from Egypt and Romania. Its name, "Mefalsim," is derived from the Hebrew word meaning "streams" or "rivulets," reflecting the hoped-for abundance of water in the arid Negev region. The community initially faced considerable challenges in adapting to the agricultural lifestyle and coping with the harsh environmental conditions.
Mefalsim's economy is primarily based on agriculture, with fields dedicated to crops such as wheat, sunflowers, and other vegetables. Some residents are also involved in other industries and services outside the moshav.
The community is characterized by a close-knit social structure and communal values. Mefalsim offers its residents various community services, including a synagogue, a community center, and educational facilities.
