Kamanjab

Kamanjab is a settlement located in the Kunene Region of northwestern Namibia. It is situated approximately 180 kilometers (110 miles) southwest of Opuwo, the regional capital.

Kamanjab serves as a local administrative center and a gateway to attractions in the surrounding area, including the Etosha National Park (via the Galton Gate) and various Himba villages. The town offers basic amenities such as fuel stations, shops, and accommodation options, catering primarily to tourists and those traveling through the region.

The area surrounding Kamanjab is characterized by rugged terrain, sparse vegetation, and a semi-arid climate. The local economy is largely based on livestock farming, particularly goats and cattle, and tourism.

Kamanjab is notable for being in close proximity to areas inhabited by the Himba people, a semi-nomadic indigenous group known for their distinctive traditional customs and appearance. This proximity makes it a popular stop for visitors interested in cultural tourism.

The name "Kamanjab" is believed to derive from a Herero word meaning "place of abundant rocks."
