Javi Martínez (footballer, born 1 July 1988)
Javier "Javi" Martínez Aginaga (born 1 July 1988) is a Spanish professional footballer who primarily plays as a defensive midfielder, but is also capable of playing as a centre-back.
Born in Estella-Lizarra, Navarre, Martínez began his professional career with CA Osasuna's B team before moving to Athletic Bilbao in 2006. He spent six seasons with Athletic Bilbao, establishing himself as a key player and becoming known for his versatility and defensive prowess.
In 2012, Martínez joined Bayern Munich for a then-record transfer fee for a Bundesliga club. During his time with Bayern Munich, he enjoyed significant success, winning numerous titles including nine Bundesliga titles, five DFB-Pokal titles, two Champions League titles, and two FIFA Club World Cups. He was a crucial component of Bayern's midfield and defense, often deployed in a holding midfield role or as a central defender.
Martínez is a former Spanish international, having represented Spain at various youth levels before making his senior debut in 2010. He was part of the Spanish squads that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2012 UEFA European Championship.
