Warren Hunt (bishop)
Warren Hunt (born February 13, 1942) is an American retired bishop of the Episcopal Church. He served as the VIII Bishop of Western North Carolina from 1995 to 2007.
Hunt received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the South in 1964, and his Master of Divinity degree from the General Theological Seminary in 1967. He was ordained deacon in June 1967 and priest in December 1967, both by Bishop Albert Rhett Stuart of Georgia.
Before becoming a bishop, Hunt served in several parishes in the Diocese of Georgia. He was rector of St. Michael and All Angels Church, Savannah, Georgia, for 17 years prior to his election as bishop.
Hunt was elected Bishop of Western North Carolina on the third ballot at a special convention held in Asheville, North Carolina, on November 19, 1994. He was consecrated on March 4, 1995, at the Asheville Civic Center by Presiding Bishop Edmond Browning.
During his tenure as Bishop of Western North Carolina, Hunt focused on strengthening congregational development, promoting lay leadership, and addressing issues of social justice within the region. He also actively participated in national and international initiatives of the Episcopal Church.
Hunt retired as Bishop of Western North Carolina on December 31, 2007. Since his retirement, he has remained active in the Episcopal Church, serving as assisting bishop in various dioceses and continuing to be involved in ministry and social justice work.
