Una White
Una White is a fictional character created by American crime fiction writer Walter Mosley. She is a recurring character in Mosley's Easy Rawlins mystery series, first appearing in the novel Devil in a Blue Dress (1990). Una White is depicted as a light-skinned Black woman who often uses her ambiguous racial identity to navigate and manipulate various social situations, particularly in the racially charged atmosphere of post-World War II Los Angeles. Her character is often enigmatic and complex, and she is frequently involved in morally questionable activities. Her relationship with the protagonist, Easy Rawlins, is a key element of her portrayal, often oscillating between alliance and conflict. Una's resourcefulness and resilience make her a significant figure in the series' exploration of race, identity, and survival in a difficult era. Her presence consistently challenges Easy Rawlins' perceptions and decisions.
