3GP(3rd Generation Partnership Project) is a multimedia container format defined by the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) for use in 3G mobile phones and other devices. The format is based on the ISO Base Media File Format (MPEG‑4 Part 12) and defined in 3GPP specifications such as TS 26.244 and TS 26.245. It supports audio and video streams, typically using codecs such as H.263, H.264/AVC, MPEG‑4 Part 2 for video, and AMR‑NB, AMR‑WB, AAC, or MP3 for audio. Files using this format commonly have the extensions .3gp or .3g2 (the latter for the 3GPP2 variant).
