Dennis J. McCarthy (born March 31 1939) is an American politician who served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from New York. His congressional service spanned from January 1971 to January 1993, covering more than two decades. While in Congress, McCarthy served on several committees, notably the House Committee on Government Operations and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, where he participated in legislation related to federal oversight and transportation policy.
After concluding his tenure in the House, McCarthy was appointed Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation, a role he held from 1995 until 2000. In that capacity, he oversaw statewide transportation planning, infrastructure development, and related regulatory matters.
