Zimnochy
Zimnochy is a Polish regional name, specifically used in the Podhale region (the area at the foot of the Tatra Mountains), to describe strong, cold winds blowing down from the mountains. These winds are known for their sudden onset and ability to rapidly lower temperatures. While the term "wiatr halny" (halny wind) is the more widely recognized and technically accurate term for the foehn wind occurring in the Tatra Mountains, "zimnochy" is a local colloquialism highlighting the chilling effect of these winds. The word itself implies coldness ("zimno" meaning cold in Polish).
