Will to Power (band)
Will to Power was an American dance-pop and freestyle music group popular in the late 1980s. They are best known for their 1988 hit single "Baby, I Love Your Way/Freebird Medley (Free Baby)," a medley of Peter Frampton's "Baby, I Love Your Way" and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird."
The band was formed in Miami, Florida by Bob Rosenberg, who served as the main producer, songwriter, and member throughout the group's existence. Will to Power featured a rotating cast of vocalists and performers. The lineup that recorded "Baby, I Love Your Way/Freebird Medley (Free Baby)" consisted of vocalist Suzi Carr, vocalist/keyboardist Dr. J. (John Elefante, not to be confused with the singer from the band Kansas), and guitarist Marvin Floyd.
Following the success of "Baby, I Love Your Way/Freebird Medley (Free Baby)," Will to Power released the album Will to Power in 1988. The album included other charting singles such as "Dreamin'," which reached the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The band continued to release music throughout the early 1990s, with various lineup changes, but never achieved the same level of commercial success as their earlier singles. Bob Rosenberg remained the constant presence, continuing to produce and write music under the Will to Power name.
Will to Power is considered a notable example of the freestyle music genre, known for its blend of dance rhythms, pop melodies, and often emotionally charged lyrics. While their mainstream popularity waned in the 1990s, their signature hit continues to be played on radio stations and remains a popular choice for nostalgia-themed playlists.
