Weyl (crater)

Weyl is a lunar impact crater that lies on the far side of the Moon. It is located to the southwest of the larger crater Appleton, and northeast of van Albada.

This crater is relatively young, with a well-defined rim that has undergone only a moderate amount of wear. The inner walls are terraced, and slope down to a relatively flat, somewhat irregular interior floor. There is a small central peak formation at the midpoint of the crater. A few tiny craterlets lie on the floor and inner walls, but otherwise the structure is relatively featureless.

Weyl is named after the German mathematician and physicist Hermann Weyl.
