Waiting for God (album)
Waiting for God is the debut studio album by the American alternative rock band Clem Snide. It was released in 1998 on Sire Records. The album is characterized by its melancholic melodies, wry lyrics, and a distinctive chamber pop sound, incorporating instruments such as cello and violin alongside traditional rock instrumentation. The songwriting, primarily by Eef Barzelay, often explores themes of existentialism, faith, and the search for meaning. While not a commercial success upon its initial release, Waiting for God garnered critical acclaim and is considered a cult classic by fans of Clem Snide. Several of the songs from the album, including "Moment in the Sun" and "Chinese Baby," have become staples of the band's live performances. The album's title is a reference to Samuel Beckett's play Waiting for Godot, reflecting the themes of anticipation and uncertainty present in the music.
