Venom (2005 film)
Venom is a 2005 American horror film directed by Jim Gillespie. It is a teen slasher film influenced by supernatural horror elements. The film stars Agnes Bruckner, Jonathan Jackson, Laura Ramsey, Meagan Good, and D. J. Cotrona.
The plot centers on a group of teenagers in Louisiana who become targeted by a malevolent spirit possessing the bodies of locals, transforming them into a murderous entity. The spirit originates from a box containing the souls of 13 serial killers, accidentally released during a swamp tour. The teens must band together to stop the possessed individuals and prevent the spirit from claiming more victims.
The film's release was met with largely negative reviews. Critics often cited its reliance on horror genre clichés, predictable plot, and uninspired characters. The special effects and acting performances were also points of criticism. Despite the negative reception, Venom has garnered some attention as a cult film.
The film was produced by Dimension Films, which at the time, was known for producing successful horror franchises such as Scream and Halloween. However, Venom failed to achieve similar box office success or critical acclaim.
