Urup (river)
The Urup is a river in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic of Russia. It is a left tributary of the Kuban River.
The Urup is approximately 231 kilometers (144 miles) long, and its drainage basin covers an area of 3,220 square kilometers (1,240 sq mi). The river originates in the northern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains. It flows generally northwards, eventually joining the Kuban River.
The river is primarily fed by snowmelt and rainfall. The Urup is characterized by its mountainous course and rapid current. The valley of the river is sparsely populated, with the main settlements located along its lower reaches.
The Urup River is used for irrigation and also has potential for hydroelectric power generation. The area surrounding the river is known for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities, including hiking and fishing.
