USS Rall

USS Rall (DE-304) was a Edsall-class destroyer escort built for the U.S. Navy during World War II. Named for Ensign Ernest Rall, Jr., who was killed in action during the attack on Pearl Harbor, she was commissioned in 1943 and served primarily in the Atlantic and Mediterranean theaters.

During the war, USS Rall performed convoy escort duties, protecting merchant ships from submarine attacks. She participated in several anti-submarine warfare operations and contributed to the sinking of at least one German U-boat.

Following the end of World War II, USS Rall remained in service with the Navy, participating in various exercises and operations. She was decommissioned in 1947 and placed in reserve.

In 1951, USS Rall was reclassified as a radar picket escort ship (DER-304). She was recommissioned and served in this new role, providing early warning and air defense for naval task forces.

USS Rall was eventually decommissioned again in 1960 and struck from the Naval Vessel Register. She was sold for scrap in 1961.

USS Rall received several battle stars for her service during World War II.
