USS H-2

The USS H-2 (SS-30) was a H-class submarine of the United States Navy. She was the second ship of that class, and the second ship named "H-2".

Laid down on 20 May 1911 by the Union Iron Works of San Francisco, California, she was launched on 4 June 1913, sponsored by Miss Dorothy Doyle, and commissioned on 1 December 1913 with Lieutenant (later Vice Admiral) Arthur L. Bristol, Jr. in command.

H-2 spent her early career operating along the Pacific coast, participating in various exercises and training cruises. With the outbreak of World War I, she patrolled the waters off the West Coast.

Following World War I, H-2 continued to operate along the Pacific coast, primarily engaged in training exercises.

On 26 November 1918, while operating in Humboldt Bay, California, H-2 ran aground. All of her crew were safely evacuated. Despite salvage efforts, the submarine was declared a total loss.

She was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 18 April 1919 and sold for scrap on 3 September 1919. The wreck of H-2 remains in Humboldt Bay to this day.
