Turisas
Turisas is a Finnish metal band formed in Hämeenlinna in 1997. They are known for their unique blend of folk metal, power metal, and symphonic metal, often incorporating elements of battle metal. Their music frequently features historical themes, particularly those relating to the Viking Age and early medieval Finland.
The band is characterized by their use of theatrical costumes and face paint, often resembling warriors from the historical periods they portray in their music. Key instruments used by Turisas include traditional metal instruments such as guitars, bass, and drums, alongside orchestral elements such as violins, trumpets, and accordion. The vocals typically consist of both clean singing and harsh growls.
Turisas has released several studio albums, including Battle Metal (2004), The Varangian Way (2007), Stand Up and Fight (2011), and Turisas2013 (2013). They have toured extensively throughout Europe and North America, appearing at major metal festivals.
The name "Turisas" is believed to be derived from an ancient Finnish sea monster or war god, though the exact etymology and mythological details surrounding the name are debated and vary depending on interpretations of Finnish folklore.
