Tortue River (L'Islet)

The Tortue River is a small river located in the L'Islet Regional County Municipality (MRC) in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec, Canada. It is known locally as Rivière Tortue. The river's name translates to "Turtle River" in English.

The river flows generally southeastward, eventually emptying into the St. Lawrence River. Its watershed is primarily agricultural and forested land. Due to its relatively small size, detailed hydrological data and ecological studies specifically focused on the Tortue River are limited, but it is recognized as contributing to the overall water quality and ecosystem health of the St. Lawrence River. Information on specific fish species, water quality, or specific environmental concerns affecting the river often requires broader context of the St. Lawrence River basin. The Tortue River, like other tributaries, experiences fluctuations in water level depending on seasonal precipitation and snowmelt.
