Thomas Cundy (senior)
Thomas Cundy (senior) (1765 – 1825) was an English architect and builder. He is considered the patriarch of a family dynasty of architects and builders active in London, particularly Belgravia and Pimlico, during the 19th century.
Cundy began his career as a stonemason and builder. He later expanded into architectural design and construction, establishing a successful practice that would be continued by his descendants. While not widely known for designing individual landmark buildings himself, his importance lies in establishing the foundation for the Cundy family's significant contribution to the development of London's urban landscape, particularly through their association with the Grosvenor Estate. He is credited with building, and possibly designing, a number of houses in Pimlico.
His son, Thomas Cundy (1790-1867), carried on the family business and became a highly influential architect.
