Taro (river)

The Taro River is a river located in northern Italy, specifically in the Emilia-Romagna region. It is a tributary of the Po River, the longest river in Italy. The Taro River flows for approximately 126 kilometers (78 miles) from its source in the Apennine Mountains, near the border with Liguria, to its confluence with the Po near Gramignazzo, a frazione of Sissa Trecasali in the province of Parma.

The river's course takes it through a varied landscape, characterized by mountainous terrain in its upper reaches and a wider, flatter plain as it approaches the Po. Its drainage basin covers a significant portion of the Parma province.

The Taro River valley has historically been an important communication route and agricultural area. The river has also been subject to flooding, necessitating flood control measures. It plays a role in the local ecosystem, supporting various plant and animal species. The river's water is used for irrigation and other purposes.
