Stanley Reed (British politician)

Stanley Reed (1872-1969) was a British journalist and politician. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Aylesbury from 1938 to 1950.

Born in Calcutta, India, to a prominent newspaper family, Reed was educated in the United Kingdom before returning to India to pursue a career in journalism. He became editor of The Times of India in 1907, a position he held for sixteen years. During his time as editor, he was influential in shaping British public opinion on Indian affairs. He was known for his moderate stance on Indian nationalism and his advocacy for gradual reforms.

Reed's political career began with his election to Parliament in 1938. He was a member of the Conservative Party. During World War II, he served on various parliamentary committees. He continued to represent Aylesbury until he retired from Parliament in 1950.

Following his retirement from politics, Reed dedicated his time to writing and other public service. He was knighted in 1916 for his services to journalism in India. His contributions to both journalism and politics solidify his place in British history.
