Spellbound (Tygers of Pan Tang album)

Spellbound is the second studio album by the British heavy metal band Tygers of Pan Tang, released in 1981 on MCA Records. It is widely considered to be one of the band's strongest and most influential albums, marking a significant step forward from their debut, Wild Cat.

The album showcases a more polished and mature sound compared to its predecessor. This is attributed, in part, to the introduction of John Sykes on guitar, replacing Fred Purser. Sykes' distinctive guitar playing and songwriting contributions had a considerable impact on the album's overall sound and direction. His guitar work is characterized by intricate riffs, melodic solos, and a greater emphasis on technical proficiency.

Spellbound features several songs that became staples of the band's live performances and are considered classics of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) genre. Notable tracks include "Gangland," "Tyger Tyger," "Hellbound," and the title track, "Spellbound." The album's lyrics generally explore themes of fantasy, mythology, and rebellion.

The album received generally positive reviews upon release and has retained a strong following among fans of NWOBHM and heavy metal. It helped to solidify Tygers of Pan Tang's reputation as a leading band in the burgeoning British heavy metal scene.
