Savanette

A savanette is a type of pocket watch case design, popular primarily during the 18th and early 19th centuries. It is characterized by a hinged cover, also known as a "hunter" cover or "demi-hunter" cover, that protects the watch's crystal. Unlike a full hunter case, the savanette cover usually features a central aperture or hole, often covered by a crystal or glass, that allows the wearer to see the time without fully opening the cover. The design provides some protection against scratches and damage to the crystal face while retaining a degree of visibility. The cover typically springs open when a release button, usually located on the pendant or crown, is pressed. Savanettes were a stylistic intermediate between open-face (open-faced) and hunter-case pocket watches.
