Sassoli

Sassoli refers primarily to David-Maria Sassoli (1956-2022), an Italian politician and journalist. He served as the President of the European Parliament from 2019 until his death in 2022.

Sassoli was a member of the Democratic Party (PD) in Italy and represented the Italian constituency in the European Parliament. Prior to his political career, he worked as a journalist for various Italian media outlets, including Il Giorno and RAI.

As President of the European Parliament, Sassoli focused on issues such as climate change, social justice, and the rule of law. His presidency coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, and he played a key role in coordinating the Parliament's response.

Following his death, Roberta Metsola was elected as his successor as President of the European Parliament.
