Rotax 582
The Rotax 582 is a two-stroke, two-cylinder, dual-carburetor, liquid-cooled engine manufactured by BRP-Rotax GmbH & Co. KG. Primarily designed for light aircraft applications, it has been widely used in ultralight aircraft, light experimental aircraft, and powered parachutes. Its power output typically ranges from 64 horsepower (48 kW) to 65 horsepower (48.5 kW), depending on the specific configuration and operating conditions. The engine features a rotary valve intake system and a magneto ignition system. Due to its power-to-weight ratio and relatively simple design, the Rotax 582 gained popularity in the light aviation sector. However, its two-stroke nature also necessitates a pre-mixed oil and fuel lubrication system and requires more frequent maintenance compared to four-stroke engines. Production of the Rotax 582 was discontinued in 2021, but it remains in operation in numerous existing aircraft.
