Rossaveal
Rossaveal (Irish: Ros an Mhíl, meaning "peninsula of the mill") is a village and major fishing port located in County Galway, Ireland. It is situated on the coast of Connemara, approximately 37 kilometers (23 miles) west of Galway city.
Rossaveal is the primary ferry port for travel to the Aran Islands (Inishmore, Inishmaan, and Inisheer), offering year-round services. It also serves as a cargo port and a base for various marine activities. The harbor is sheltered and well-equipped, accommodating a variety of vessels.
The economy of Rossaveal is largely dependent on fishing, aquaculture, and tourism. The fish processing industry is a significant employer in the area. The port supports a substantial fishing fleet, and seafood landed at Rossaveal is exported to markets both domestically and internationally.
The Irish language is widely spoken in Rossaveal, as it is located within the Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking region). The area is rich in traditional Irish culture and heritage.
Rossaveal has seen significant investment in infrastructure in recent years, including improvements to the harbor facilities and road network. This has enhanced its role as a key economic hub for the Connemara region.
