Robert Griffiths (politician)

Robert Griffiths (born circa 1950) is a Welsh communist politician. He is the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Britain, a position he has held since 1998.

Griffiths was a leading figure in the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) prior to its dissolution in 1991. He served as the editor of its theoretical journal, Marxism Today, during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Marxism Today was known for its embrace of Eurocommunism and its engagement with contemporary social and political issues.

Following the collapse of the CPGB, Griffiths played a central role in the formation of the Communist Party of Britain. He has been a consistent advocate for communist ideas and policies in the United Kingdom, often commenting on current affairs and political developments from a Marxist perspective.

His political views generally align with classical Marxist-Leninist principles, with an emphasis on class struggle, socialist revolution, and international solidarity. Griffiths has written extensively on topics such as the crisis of capitalism, the role of the working class, and the need for a radical transformation of society. He is a frequent contributor to the Morning Star newspaper and other left-wing publications.

Griffiths stood as a candidate for the European Parliament in Wales in 2004 and 2009, representing the Communist Party of Britain. He has also been involved in various campaigns and movements for social justice, peace, and environmental protection.
