Queen Ida

Queen Ida (born Ida Guillory, January 15, 1929) is an American accordionist and zydeco musician. She is known as "Queen Ida" due to her significant contributions and impact on the zydeco music genre. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, she learned to play the accordion from her mother and father.

While working as a school bus driver and raising her family in California, she began playing zydeco music in the early 1970s, gaining recognition for her energetic performances and distinctive accordion style. Her music blends traditional zydeco with influences from Cajun, R&B, and Latin music.

Queen Ida has released numerous albums throughout her career, earning a Grammy Award for Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording in 1988 for her album "I'm Queen Ida." She has toured extensively, bringing zydeco music to audiences worldwide. She is considered a pivotal figure in popularizing zydeco music beyond its regional roots in Louisiana. Her contributions have been recognized with accolades and awards, cementing her status as a significant figure in American music history.
