Plesiocis
Plesiocis is a genus of small, flattened weevils belonging to the family Brentidae, subfamily Cyladinae. These weevils are primarily found in Australasia and the Pacific region. Plesiocis weevils are typically associated with dead or decaying wood, where they feed and reproduce. Their elongated bodies and rostrum (snout) are characteristic of Brentidae weevils, adapted for navigating narrow spaces within timber. Identification to the species level often requires careful examination of morphological characteristics, including the shape and structure of the rostrum, antennae, and elytra (wing coverings). While not typically considered economically significant pests, they play a role in the decomposition of woody material within their ecosystems.
