Philip Campbell (scientist)
Philip Campbell (born 1951) is a British physicist and science editor. He is best known for his long tenure as editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Nature from 1995 to 2018.
Campbell earned a PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Leicester. Before joining Nature, he worked as a physics editor at IOP Publishing.
During his time at Nature, Campbell oversaw the journal's expansion and adaptation to the digital age. He championed open access to scientific research and advocated for responsible data sharing. He also emphasized the importance of clear and accessible science communication.
After leaving Nature, Campbell became the editor-in-chief of Springer Nature, overseeing a portfolio of journals. He has also been involved in initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion in science.
