Phil Martin (basketball)

Phil Martin (born August 29, 1956) is a retired American college basketball coach. He is best known for his long tenure as the head men's basketball coach at Prairie View A&M University.

Martin attended college at Austin Peay State University where he also played basketball.

He began his coaching career as an assistant coach before accepting the head coaching position at Prairie View A&M University in 1985. Martin served as the head coach of the Panthers for 20 seasons (1985-2005). During his tenure, he led the team to significant improvements and competitiveness within the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). He is credited with building a foundation for future success at Prairie View.

Following his time at Prairie View, Martin served as an assistant coach at other universities. He has remained active in the basketball community, participating in coaching clinics and mentoring young players.
