Panyptila

Panyptila is a genus of swifts belonging to the family Apodidae. The genus contains two species:

• Antillean Nighthawk ( Panyptila cayennensis): Also referred to as the Cayenne Swift, this species is found in Central and South America.
• Lesser Swallow-tailed Swift (Panyptila sanctihieronymi): This species is found in Mexico and Central America.

These swifts are characterized by their small size, deeply forked tails, and relatively long, pointed wings, adaptations that allow for agile flight. They are aerial insectivores, catching insects on the wing. They often build nests in crevices, caves, or even man-made structures.
