Otokogumi

Otokogumi (男闘呼組) was a Japanese rock band formed in 1985 under the Johnny & Associates talent agency. The name roughly translates to "Man Fight Group" or "Band of Manly Men." The group consisted of Kazuya Takahashi (高橋一也), Kenichi Narita (成田昭次), Koji Uesato (上里耕史), and Akira Maeda (前田耕陽).

Otokogumi was known for their energetic rock performances, often incorporating elements of hard rock and glam rock. They played their own instruments and wrote many of their own songs, distinguishing them from typical Johnny's idol groups who often relied on outside songwriters and choreographed dance routines.

The band achieved considerable success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, releasing several hit singles and albums. They also branched out into acting, appearing in television dramas and films.

Despite their popularity, Otokogumi disbanded in 1993, with the members pursuing solo careers in music and acting. In 2022, three of the original members (Takahashi, Narita, and Maeda) reunited under the new name "Rockon Social Club," while Uesato opted not to participate. The reunion marked a resurgence of interest in Otokogumi's music.
