ORP Mewa (603)

ORP Mewa (603) was a Project 206FM minesweeper (Polish designation: trałowiec bazowy) of the Polish Navy. Commissioned in 1967 and decommissioned in 2020, it served for over 50 years.

The ORP designation stands for Okręt Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej, meaning "Ship of the Republic of Poland". Mewa translates to "Seagull" in English.

The ship was designed for sweeping sea mines in coastal waters and port areas. The Project 206FM class was an evolution of the earlier Project 206 design, featuring improvements in mine detection and countermeasures. These vessels were primarily equipped with mechanical and acoustic sweeps.

Throughout its service, ORP Mewa (603) participated in numerous naval exercises and operations in the Baltic Sea. It also played a role in representing the Polish Navy at various international events. Following its decommissioning, plans were made for its potential preservation as a museum ship, though the exact status remains uncertain.
