NGC 322

NGC 322 is a lenticular galaxy located approximately 330 million light-years away in the constellation Phoenix. It is a member of the galaxy group LGG 16. While originally classified as an elliptical galaxy (E3), more recent observations suggest its classification as a lenticular galaxy (S0), as it exhibits a disk-like structure but lacks prominent spiral arms. Its apparent magnitude is around 13.5, making it a faint object requiring a moderately sized telescope to observe. It is interacting with the nearby spiral galaxy NGC 325, and these two galaxies are often referred to as a pair. The interaction between NGC 322 and NGC 325 likely influences the morphology and star formation activity within both galaxies.
