Martha Davis (musician)

Martha Davis (born December 14, 1951) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the lead vocalist for the new wave band The Motels.

Davis formed The Motels in Berkeley, California in the early 1970s. The band underwent several lineup changes before achieving mainstream success in the early 1980s with hits such as "Only the Lonely," "Suddenly Last Summer," and "Total Control." Davis was the principal songwriter and creative force behind The Motels, her distinctive vocals and songwriting style defining the band's sound.

Following the breakup of The Motels in the late 1980s, Davis embarked on a solo career, releasing several albums and continuing to tour. She has also worked as a songwriter for other artists and contributed to film soundtracks. The Motels have reunited several times over the years, continuing to perform and record new music with Davis at the helm.
