Marriage (Wales) Act 2010
The Marriage (Wales) Act 2010 is an Act of the Senedd Cymru (Welsh Parliament; formerly the National Assembly for Wales) that enabled civil partnerships to be registered in Wales and amended existing legislation relating to marriage in Wales to reflect the changes introduced by the Civil Partnership Act 2004.
Specifically, the Act amended provisions relating to approved premises for civil marriage to also be approved premises for civil partnerships. This meant that venues already licensed for civil marriages could also be licensed for civil partnership registrations.
The Act ensured consistency between the legal frameworks for marriage and civil partnership in Wales, particularly with regard to the places where such unions could legally take place. It effectively harmonized certain aspects of marriage and civil partnership law within the Welsh legal system.
