Malyy (crater)
Malyy is a lunar impact crater that lies on the far side of the Moon. It is located to the northeast of the larger crater Gagarin, and southwest of Raspletin.
Malyy is a relatively young crater, characterized by its well-defined features and lack of significant erosion. The rim is sharp and circular, with a terraced inner wall. The crater floor is relatively flat and contains a small central peak. A system of ejecta rays emanates from Malyy, extending for several crater diameters across the surrounding lunar surface.
The name "Malyy" is Russian for "small". This name was officially adopted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1970. The crater's comparatively small size may have influenced its naming.
