Malegno

Malegno is a comune (municipality) in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, Italy. It is located in the Val Camonica. Its inhabitants are known as "Malegnensi."

Geography

Malegno is situated in the lower Val Camonica, on the right bank of the Oglio river. It is bordered by the communes of Breno, Cividate Camuno, and Losine.

History

The area has been inhabited since Roman times. The name "Malegno" likely derives from the Latin "Male Oleum," referring to poor quality oil. The comune experienced significant emigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
