He was found guilty in 2011 of murdering his first wife, Claire Morris, in 1994, and of attempting to murder his second wife, Felicity Drumm, in 1999. His crimes were motivated by financial gain, with Webster attempting to claim insurance payouts after the deaths of his wives.

Following a lengthy investigation, Webster was arrested in Scotland in 2009. The trial at the High Court in Glasgow lasted several months. He was found guilty of murder and attempted murder on May 19, 2011. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 30 years.

The case attracted significant media attention due to the calculated nature of the crimes and the attempts to profit from the deaths of his wives. The investigation involved police forces in Scotland, New Zealand, and Australia, highlighting the international scope of his crimes.
