Luke Stewart (musician)

Luke Stewart is an American upright and electric bassist, composer, improviser, and organizer known for his work in experimental and creative music, particularly within the jazz, free jazz, and avant-garde scenes. He is a prominent figure in the Washington, D.C. music community, having founded and organized various events and ensembles.

Stewart's musical approach often combines elements of free improvisation, drone music, and groove-based structures. He is known for his powerful and deeply resonant tone, as well as his ability to create compelling sonic textures and rhythmic patterns.

He has collaborated extensively with a wide range of musicians, including but not limited to, Moor Mother, Irreversible Entanglements, James Brandon Lewis, Jaimie Branch, and William Parker. He performs both as a soloist and as a member of numerous ensembles.
