Louis Smith (gymnast)
Louis Smith MBE (born 22 April 1989) is a retired British artistic gymnast. He specialized in pommel horse and is one of Britain's most successful gymnasts.
Smith rose to prominence at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he won a bronze medal in the pommel horse, becoming the first British gymnast to win an individual Olympic medal in a century. He continued his success by winning a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics, again in the pommel horse. He won another silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, his third Olympic medal, also in the pommel horse.
In addition to his Olympic achievements, Smith is a multiple-time European champion and World Championship medalist. He won gold at the 2006 European Championships in Volos, Greece and at the 2010 European Championships in Birmingham, England, both on the pommel horse. He also won a silver medal at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow.
Smith has represented Great Britain at numerous other international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games. He has also appeared on television, most notably winning the 2012 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
He retired from professional gymnastics in 2018.
