Lorwyn

Lorwyn is a plane in the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It is the first half of the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor block, a dual-themed setting that explores the cyclical nature of a vibrant, idyllic world and its darker, warped reflection.

Lorwyn is characterized by a permanent state of perpetual daylight and a strong connection to the land and its inhabitants. The plane is heavily populated by various races drawing inspiration from folklore and fairy tales, including elves, kithkin (homely humans), giants, treefolk, merfolk, and mischievous creatures known as sprites. The plane is generally considered a utopian setting, although underlying tensions and conflicts exist.

The key themes of Lorwyn include community, belonging, and the celebration of life. The societies are often tightly knit and emphasize the importance of tradition and shared experiences. The creatures of Lorwyn are often more focused on beauty, art, and the simple pleasures of life.

The Lorwyn set was released in October 2007 and was immediately followed by the Morningtide set, which continued to explore the themes and mechanics introduced in Lorwyn. These two sets were later followed by the transformation of the plane into Shadowmoor, explored in the Shadowmoor and Eventide sets. The transformation is known as the Great Aurora, a phenomenon that alters the plane's landscape, inhabitants, and overall atmosphere.
