Lichenek
A Lichenek is a type of small, non-player character (NPC) creature, primarily found in fantasy role-playing games and related fictional settings. The term is often used to denote a miniature or diminutive version of a Lich, a powerful undead sorcerer or necromancer. While Liches are usually formidable antagonists, Licheneks are frequently portrayed as weaker, less intelligent, and sometimes comical versions of their larger counterparts.
Their abilities, if any, typically mirror those of a Lich but are significantly scaled down. This might include limited spellcasting capabilities, minor undead manipulation, or a rudimentary form of immortality tied to a phylactery (an object containing a portion of their soul). Unlike full Liches, Licheneks may be created unintentionally, through failed rituals, unintended consequences of magical events, or simply as the result of a Lich's own experiments.
In some contexts, the term "Lichenek" is also used more generally to describe any small, undead creature with a vaguely Lich-like appearance or demeanor, even if it lacks a direct connection to a full-fledged Lich. Their purpose in a narrative can vary, serving as comic relief, minor obstacles, or even unexpected allies. Their presence often serves to highlight the power of a true Lich by contrast.
