Laystall
A laystall is a place where refuse, rubbish, and dung are deposited; a dung heap or a place for discarded materials. Historically, laystalls were commonly found in urban areas and were a significant source of environmental pollution and disease. They served as temporary or permanent sites for the accumulation of organic waste, ashes, and other unwanted materials before they were either left to decompose or removed for other uses, such as fertilizer. The term "laystall" is largely archaic today, but the concept persists in modern waste management practices. The composition of a historical laystall varied depending on the surrounding community but often included food scraps, animal excrement, street sweepings, and industrial waste.
