La Revuo

La Revuo Internacia, often simply referred to as La Revuo, was an early and influential international Esperanto periodical. Founded in 1906 by Hector Hodler, a prominent Swiss Esperantist, it aimed to elevate the quality of Esperanto literature and foster a sense of community among Esperanto speakers worldwide.

La Revuo played a crucial role in standardizing the Esperanto language through its articles, which covered a wide range of topics including literature, science, history, and culture. The publication was known for its commitment to publishing original works in Esperanto, rather than relying solely on translations, contributing significantly to the development of a distinct Esperanto literary tradition.

The journal was distributed internationally and gained a substantial readership, becoming a central forum for discussion and debate within the Esperanto movement. Articles often addressed issues related to the development of the language, the promotion of Esperanto culture, and the advancement of international understanding.

La Revuo ceased publication with the outbreak of World War I in 1914, although a brief revival occurred in 1920. Its impact on the development of Esperanto as a living language and a medium for intellectual exchange remains significant. It is considered a cornerstone of early Esperanto literature and a valuable historical resource for researchers studying the history of the Esperanto movement.
