Kovacsia

Kovacsia is a genus of fungi in the family Tilletiariaceae. These fungi are typically found as saprobes in soil and decaying organic matter, although some species have also been found associated with insects.

The genus is characterized by its basidiomycetous nature, producing septate basidia with lateral sterigmata. Kovacsia species often form colonies that are yeast-like or filamentous. Identification typically requires microscopic examination of cellular morphology and analysis of ribosomal DNA sequences.

The taxonomy of Kovacsia has undergone revision, and some species previously classified within the genus have been reclassified into other genera based on molecular phylogenetic analyses.
